Wall-E
If artificial intelligence develops and there are robots that have unique personalities and the ability to love, forgive, and empathize, along with the ability to express a number of other “human” emotions — will they have a soul? And if they do have a soul, can they go to heaven?
And no, this is not some roundabout way of advertising for Wall-E. Or is it …
Wall-E is the Antichrist
only if they are elect
To answer a possibly flippant question in a possibly unflippant way, my favorite bit of wisdom on souls is Lewis’ “You don’t have a soul- you are a soul. You have a body.” Whatever technological marvels we construct are merely mimicing God’s dust-to-man trick. I’d guess we lack that critical bit of breath to seal the deal. We may be able to fool ourselves, but I don’t think the requirement for heaven is some sort of Theistic Turing Test.
But then again, perhaps this whole comment was just an excuse to bring up the idea of a TTT which your post inspired me with. Pun intended.
no and no
wall-e would make a nice mascot for the jets though
